Wealden works with local schools and colleges to offer work experience to students but whatever your age or background, if you are returning to work after a career break or just thinking of changing careers, we will try to arrange a work experience placement for you, if you are interested in working for a District Council and want to find out more about it.
It is our policy to actively encourage applications from schools and individuals of all ages, who are seeking work experience placements.
The Council believes that it is only by encouraging such placements, that people can be afforded the opportunity to experience the discipline of work, in one of the largest and most varied organisations in the Wealden area.
The majority of people who undertake work experience with the Council are studying in one of the main secondary schools within the Wealden District area, however people of non-school age have also participated in work experience programmes with us.

When available, placements will be offered in the Council’s offices in Hailsham:

Duration
For school pupils work experience placements usually last for one week and take place between early-May and mid-July of each academic year.
It is also possible for students in further/higher education to undertake work experience with the Council. This usually takes the form of students joining the Council during the holidays to experience the work of a particular department.
In cases where the person undertaking work experience at Wealden is over the age of 16, then the placement will be limited to 4 weeks and the individual concerned will be required to enter into a contractual arrangement with the Council.
Regardless of age and the basis on which the work experience is undertaken, the placement will be unpaid and no expenses will be reimbursed..
Any school work experience co-ordinator, pupil, person from a non-academic environment or student is welcome to contact the Council to discuss the possibility of work experience placements.
